Closure of Barraba and Manilla Tips

Closure of Barraba and Manilla Tips
Tamworth Regional Council have announced that they are closing the tips in Barraba and Manilla. This follows the cancelling of the half yearly curbside bulk waste pick up last year. Therefore we will have no means of bulk waste disposal. No alternative has been given as to how bulk waste can be disposed of.
It has also been intimated that Tamworth Regional Council will be increasing the cost of weekly garbage pick ups. Our rates will rise yet our access to an essential service has been reduced to almost nothing.
According to the Council, this is what our rates for waste management are for;
What is a domestic waste management charge?
The cost of delivering domestic waste management services such as garbage, green waste and recycling, can’t be financed from ordinary rates. As such, Council sets a separate and sufficient annual charge to cover the reasonable cost of providing these services.
The costs involved in waste management include
•maintenance and upgrading of Council’s transfer stations and landfills
•licensing requirements of the transfer stations and landfills
•monitoring of transfer stations and landfills
•waste education
•management and administration of all Council's landfill sites
There are a variety of factors that determine what waste charge is applied to a property from the various Domestic or Non-Domestic tiers available. On your rates notice it will advise what category your property falls in to ie Waste Category 1, 2 or 3 or 'Domestic Waste Management'.
