Why this petition matters

A 21yr old man died at Interfaith Hospital after he was stabbed in the chest outside of a New York City Men’s’ Shelter at 1322 Bedford Avenue near Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. Authorities could not say whether the victim or his attacker are residents of the shelter.  Authorities identified the deceased as 21yr old Miguel Acosta. No Arrests have been made at this time.  So let me just be clear the authorities describe this man as Miguel Acosta but we the family describe him as a son a brother uncle yes he was my family and he was stabbed to death right in front of the shelter in 2019 he was trying to get his life together because he had just got out a foster care this place deserves to be closed it is not a safe place it is on humane and I will fight till the end to this place is closed down and they find better ways of how to service our children our youth on top of that it is ludicrous that when someone goes to register that they’re homeless without doing a thorough check on the individual they allow this individual to enter the shelter when individuals can’t even speak clearly how dare you shame on you that kids blood and everyone else’s blood is in your hands and everyone else who allows this place to be open remember that Miguel Acosta‘s blood and everyone else’s blood moving forward that dies in the shelter it’s going to be in their hands
