Close the Newton County Ga. Landfill
This petition had 876 supporters
Who thinks it's ok to put a 15-story mountain of trash 300 feet from a river?
surrounded by flood plain,
300 feet from a kayaking/swimming water trail,
within 5 miles of 5 schools,
4 miles upstream from Bert Adams Boy Scout Camp,
4.4 miles from a private airstrip (given the 100s of buzzards overhead),
10 miles upstream from Jackson Lake,
1 mile from a popular historic district,
yards away from the Springhill neighborhood, and
17 miles upstream from water intake on the Ocmulgee for drinking water
Residents of Newton County, Butts County, Jackson Lake homeowners, fellow river lovers and all who believe in protecting the environment: we need your help. Please sign this petition to tell Newton County's Commissioners and Newton County Solid Waste Authority members that this landfill, even as it is, should not be on a river. Expanding it, privatizing, and allowing trash to be piled 15 stories high and 300 feet from a river is not the best we can do for our communities, future generations and everyone who lives down river today.
