The last place I’ve visited was Kwantlen and now I have a temperature of 104°F. Take this instance into consideration. There are thousands of students that sit in those chairs and use those desks. Those are not getting cleaned after every class. I am sure this is how I got sick to begin with.
I understand KPU has advices everybody to clean their hands with soap and water, or alcohol-based hand rub. Cold water doesn’t do anything and there’s no enough sanitizer in the dispensers.
Covering our nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue or flexed elbow doesn’t prevent anything. Some students do have asthma, diabetes, and other respiratory problems—these people are most at sick.
The only way to avoid contact with sick people is by cancelling events, travelling outside of Canada, and shutting down places like schools. Students take transit and it is a cesspool. All students are in a favour to move classes online.
Expecting students to stay at home if they or someone in their family is experiencing flu-like symptoms is probably one of the worst possible things. Sure, staying at home will prevent the virus from spreading, but students are afraid they will not pass their classes. I am one of those people.
With the lack of resources such as sanitizers, soaps, antiseptics, vitamins, etc.—I do believe the Kwantlen should move all classes online.
The University says that we should stay home if we're sick, but that's almost impossible with all the midterms and assignments coming up that we absolutely CANNOT miss. Not only that, we risk getting sick if we travel on the bus (I have seen people cough into their hands and then touch the railings) and we also risk spreading sickness to others (not just students but also our family members). I have a running nose, but I can't and I will not miss class. The semester is almost over, I have a midterm coming up, and it's too late to withdraw classes. Many students have the same dilemma as me; miss class and fail, or go to class and potentially get sick.
