For years the community of Richmond Hill has called upon the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality to block off a “criminal’s highway”.

The narrow pedestrian stairway between St Patrick’s Street and Govan Mbeki Avenue is regularly used by criminals to escape after robbing and assaulting residents and visitors.

A second pedestrian walkway lies adjacent to this one, not 50 metres away and will therefore not impede traffic.

We the undersigned, call on the NMBMM to block off this route at both Govan Mbeki Avenue and St Patrick’s Street entrances to protect the community.

SAPS has been engaged and they support the closure of some access routes to deter criminals and bring down crime.
