CLOSE CHARLESTON COUNTY SCHOOLS and THE PORT OF CHARLESTON TO CRUISE PASSENGERS
CLOSE CHARLESTON COUNTY SCHOOLS and THE PORT OF CHARLESTON TO CRUISE PASSENGERS
Why this petition matters

A large segment of our population are remote workers. Additionally, Post and Courier reports that 55 Citadel Cadets attended the CPAC conference that has caused several members of Congress to self quarantine, and the port of Charleston continues to be open to cruise passengers. Despite calling the Governor, Mayor and Congressman offices, I have not been able to confirm that these cadets are self quarantining, or anything that indicates that the cruise ships will be prohibited from entering our port and frequenting our supermarkets and restaurants. I am a high risk resident. I am the grandmother of two small children, who are in my care during their parents' work hours and the mother of a public school teacher, who lives with me. It is 2020, surely there is a way for students to have online contact with their teachers to continue their studies. I am asking that you join me in an effort to keep our community of residents, teachers, hospital and healthcare workers safe. We do not have tests and as such, are being lulled into a false sense of security due to the low numbers of cases being reported. We must take action today and do our part to remain safe. Schools must be closed and test kits must be the highest priority of our government officials.
