We, the undersigned, petition the council for an urgent traffic assessment and action to ensure safer speeds and road safety measures on Sans Souci Rd, Newlands - as a priority.

The excessive and inappropriate speed of vehicles that use Sans Souci Rd - is a risk for road traffic deaths and injuries - of not only the surrounding residents which pets and families make use of, it is also an entrance to the walkway on Liesbeek River, as well as a thoroughfare for the SACS and Sans Souci school-going children, and the public of Newlands Swimming Pool (when in order).

The current situation is unsafe as pedestrians are continually putting themselves at risk. Due to the nature of it being a ‘feeder’ road and shortcut to main roads, drivers neglect safety precautions and speed through. There is no traffic calming measures - and together with speeding cars - it is a constant worry that we face daily.

We would be grateful if you could assist us in doing everything possible to prevent the inevitable and propose four measures to be implemented to improve safety:
1. 30km/ph speed limit
2. A raised zebra crossing
3. Speed bumps
4. Camera

For the safety of our community, please take serious our petition and address this issue with due diligence and haste.
