Make successful petitions have real political impact!

Inviting people to petition government is becoming a sham. Even very successful petitions in terms of support often result in desultory and ineffective debates. The most blatant recent example was the debate following the 150,000 signatories appealing for more effective action to counter companies' efforts to make female employees wear high heeled shoes. This was ' debated' by about a dozen people four of whom left during the discussion. Is this not a mockery of the participatory democracy? Petitions with large popular support should be guaranteed a proper debate followed by a clear and well publicised declaration of why the proposal has been validated or not, if not why, and if so, what real action will be taken.
