Why this petition matters

Started by Meghan Jackson

During 2020-2021's COVID restrictions, Clinton Central School District's Board of Education meetings were moved to a virtual format.  These Zoom meetings were open to the public and were also streamed on YouTube. Once meetings were allowed to resume in-person, virtual access was no longer available.  Despite repeated requests, we have been told that they will not be broadcasting meetings "for a variety of reasons."

There is so much that goes on during the meetings and it is not right that many stakeholders will not have equitable access to these meetings if they remain in person only. Most of the fruitful discussion that takes place during the meetings is not included in the minutes. The technology is available and has been utilized effectively since the Spring of 2020. It is so important that everyone has access to these meetings.

Most area schools' board of education meetings are available online for anyone to attend. CCSD PTA meetings are available in a hybrid format (both in person and virtual).

It would be unjust and a disservice to the community to not resume the streaming of the board of education meetings. Something as important as these meetings should be transparently available to all stakeholders. Please reconsider the decision to deny and refuse virtual access to board of education meetings. We ask that CCSD truly scrutinizes the importance of being inclusive and equitable when making this decision.
