Enable wearing shorts for patients in medical institutions

I've been told that my outfits were not appropriate because you could see my thighs. It's not summer yet but it's already too hot to be comfortable wearing jeans. Nevertheless, it is forbidden for patients to wear shorts, dresses and skirts that end over the knee.

I discussed the dress code with my doctor in hopes of being given a reason for the existence of this rule. Here's the account of our encounter:

- He thinks the dress code protects a part of the patients who deal with low self-confidence, I deducted it's mostly related to anterior eating disorders. He told me some patients are uncomfortable seeing my legs. I think the dress code only reinforces the idea that being okay about showing your skin is abnormal and no female should be confident enough in their bodies to do this. In addition, this rule seem to apply to females only; a male who wears shorts is percieved normal, a female who wears the same piece of clothing is percieved over-confident. Wearing shorts is associated with the idea that showing your thighs is outrageous, that you're asking for attention, because people like to make feminine clothes sexual. But let me tell you something: we do not dress to please you. We're not objects so we must stop treating people this way. The dress code increases the risks of slut-shaming and has a huge impact on self-esteem. Consequently, it increases the risks of developing eating disorders and depression.

- He thinks society can only prosper with the normativity and uniformity being respected, meaning that there's no place for difference, so no freedom of expression and no right to have control over our own bodies. Normativity is poisonous and toxic; just look around you, so many people are discriminated against because we teach our kids how to follow the norms to be accepted instead of teaching them to be open-minded so we can all be respectful towards each other. No dress code can solve the discriminatory issue, in fact it perpetuates the tradition.

THERE IS NO SHAME IN LOVING YOUR BODY. WE SHOULD ALL BE ALLOWED TO WEAR WHATEVER WE WANT, LIKE SHORTS WHEN IT'S HOT.

If you agree that the dress code is unfair, go ahead and sign this petition to destroy the patriarchy. Thank you so much.
