Help CAWA represent climber interests at Wallcliffe!
Problem
CAWA needs the climbing community to show its support for fair, democratic, and transparent consultation.
The Shire of Augusta Margaret River intends to make a determination aimed to protect environmental and heritage values of the Wallcliffe Cliffs and surrounding areas. Amongst other restrictions, the proposal from the Shire currently mandates the removal of all bolts from the cliff face, along with a ban on access to any cave or overhanging section of the cliff.
These restrictions aim to eliminate misuse of the area, activities such as unauthorised tree clearing, acts of vandalism, defecation in caves, and loud music. CAWA believes that climbers share a similar interest in the elimination and management of these antisocial behaviours. The Shire of Augusta Margaret River should engage with CAWA to fairly determine whether climbing can coexist with heritage and environmental interests at Wallcliffe.
Solution
Please sign this petition to show your support for climbers having a voice in this process through CAWA.
If CAWA is given an opportunity to to confer with the key stakeholder groups, it may be possible to generate a respectful and responsible outcome, a happy middle ground for recreational users, the environment, and Traditional Owners.
CAWA is committed to the build and implementation of a management plan in conjunction with the Shire and Traditional Owners, ensuring heritage, environmental, and climber interests can all be supported. See How to Save Wallcliffe for more information on what CAWA is doing to help shape the future of climber access to Wallcliffe.
