Why this petition matters

Started by Deidra Lauzon

A petition to the Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge.

Thousands of students have taken to the streets to protest the growing climate emergency that threatens our future. As the climate warms closer to the limit of 1.5ºC it is evident that now is the time for action. As the generation most affected by climate change, the students of Quebec deserve to understand the nature of this situation and the steps needed toward a sustainable future. Students deserve to be educated and empowered to take action against climate change instead of fearing an uncertain future.

We the undersigned residents of the Province of Quebec, call upon the members of the Ministry of Education to include a more comprehensive climate change curriculum for our elementary and high schools. Such a curriculum would include:

  1. a scientific explanation for the causes of climate change,
  2. the social and ecological consequences,
  3. mitigation strategies to reduce climate change
  4. developing sustainable skills (composting, gardening, sewing)
