Clemency for Celeste Monette Blair
Clemency for Celeste Monette Blair
Our loving daughter, Celeste Monette Blair, is 49 yrs old and in 2015, given the same sentence as the people at the head of a drug conspiracy, although her part was minor, short, and the sole evidence against her was given by the heads of the conspiracy. There were also false charges. Her court-appointed attorney assured us that she would most likely be given 5 to 7 years, (not the 30 or 40 year sentence that the guys in control were given).
At the age of 19, Celeste lost her father to cancer, and "trying to fill the void inside me", she began to drink and use drugs. “I only sobered when, at age 22, I was placed in state custody for selling drugs to an undercover cop." Celeste served 6 years of a 25 year sentence, but was given 20 years probation.
She has endured numerous trials in her life, including an abusive boyfriend, and several years later, a husband she loved, would entrap her into the notorious 'House of Yahweh' cult. He would give most of their income to the cult leader and do various things which were unethical, hurtful, and even abusive, for Celeste. He forced her to listen to and follow advice from older 'seasoned' women in the cult who could 'help and save her.' I recall her calling me, crying, and saying she should have listened to me, but was afraid to leave. Not long after being made a deacon, her husband divorced her, as he could not be a husband to a subservient wife and serve as a deacon.
So after 23 years of sobriety, hard work, and an attempt at a happy life, our daughter once again dealt with pain, depression, and questioned her self-worth.
Being the creative, resourceful woman that she is, she would quickly bounce back, and for several years, be self- motivated, hard-working, and a helper to so many in her family and neighborhood, a volunteer in her community, who also owned her own business.
She is quick to admit her guilt and her part in the drug trade for those two years, but cannot believe she was given a 30 yr sentence. “I am here, solely due to the testimonies of other addicts, who were leveraging for their own freedom and my own admittance. The bottom line is that I know I’m far from perfect, but our judicial system is truly flawed. When the sheriff’s dept. staked out my home, they never saw me do anything wrong. When the feds searched my house, they found nothing. They pulled my car over and still, found nothing. When they sent CI’s into my house, they found only that I was partying...using drugs.”
“I spend my time and energy teaching classes, designing curriculum, and mentoring others. I’ve made it my personal mission to make sure that women here know that when they leave here, they have options. So until something changes, i’ll be here, trying to make a difference, in hopes that at least one girl will leave here and make wise, healthy choices!”
Celeste has a large, loving family, and many precious supporters and dear friends, including Mt. Juliet, TN Chief of Police and pastor, James Hambrick, former Mt.Juliet mayor, Kevin Mack, Celest’s pastor (and ours) during her years in TN, Pastor Larry Grainger, Rob Shearer, former Mt.Juliet City Planner, and Cyndy Shearer, co-founder w/ Spouse, Rob, of Francis Schaeffer Study Center. The brilliant couple also began two wonderful home school tutorials, one for jr.high & high school and another for elementary.
Celeste has many other supporters who love her and know her to be a brilliant, gifted woman, who loves serving others.
Thank you and God bless,
