McEachern High School released its clear backpack notice for a clear book bag policy on July 11, 2022. Teachers talked about the policy before school ended however, nothing official was shared. Although McEachern states that they had discussions with all stakeholders, the high school did not officially give parents or students notice beforehand or let them have any say in the new policy. Their reason for this policy is to help “keep our students and staff as safe as possible” when in reality weapons can be hidden in clothing, wrapped in jackets and then placed in the book bag. It is also an insult to us as students that all Cobb County schools don’t need clear book bags, but they think WE do. The students of McEachern would not feel any safer with clear book bags and instead feel like it is an invasion of privacy. Part of the problem is gun violence, and without stricter gun laws gun violence in school systems will most likely continue at the same rate.
