Clean Water for our Neighbors in Charleston Park, FL

Most of us take clean water in our homes for granted, we jump in the shower every morning without giving it a second thought. But for our Lee County neighbors in the Charleston Park Community of Alva the water that flows into their homes is not even remotely clean. For them the water is not fit to cook with or even brush their teeth, but they must use it to wash their clothes, dishes and to bathe their children. The residents of Charleston Park have been sick with stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, rashes. Cancer is a worry. They blame the water. It’s been that way for decades and little is being done about it.
According to Tim Byrne CEO of Aqua Consultants, the water in Charleston Park is the worst that he has seen in his decades of water treatment business. It's hard to believe that in 2017 just a short distance from the highly prized Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Captiva Islands with their faboulous resorts, meticulously manicured golf courses and high-end real estate our neighbors in Charleston Park are struggling to survive with contaminated water in their homes.
Alice Washington was a powerful voice for the people of Charleston Park, but sadly the people have lost their advocate. In her memory, the signers of this petition urge the Lee County Board of County Commissioners to find a way to bring clean water to Charleston Park. Everyone in Lee County deserves to have clean water in their homes.
