We have been waiting for more than one year for Mill Creek to be cleaned up from the ecological disaster we endured in March 2021. RJ Schinner tried to get their insurance companies to do the right thing and has failed. Our local representatives and our mayor don’t think this is a priority. Of course, they don't, it has no visual or ecological impact on Broadway or on the wealthier neighborhoods in Nashville. 

Well, I'm sick of waiting and Mill Creek deserves more. Nashville Zoo created a partnership in 2009 with state and national organizations to revitalize the creek and protect the endangered Nashville Crayfish. A species that live nowhere else but our Mill Creek. Not only does this disaster stand to directly impact the crayfish, but it has a direct effect on all wildlife that live in and around Mill Creek.

We have a rainy-day fund in Tennessee and Governor Lee was quoted as saying, “a rainy day fund should be used for the most catastrophic events”. If this environmental disaster isn't a catastrophic event, I don't know what is.

If we don't take a stand to clean up Mill Creek now, not only will the Nashville Crayfish lose, but so will we as a community. It's time for us to remind Mayor Cooper that he is the mayor of all of Nashville, not just downtown.
