• Fact: George Georges did not win a seat to City Council when he ran for office. He was fourth place in a vote for two seats.
• Fact: George Georges would have been required to step down from his appointed seat on City Council when the new City Council and Mayor were sworn in.
• Fact: By resigning from his seat during a regular Council meeting and immediately being reappointed, the normal course of business was bypassed. This allowed Georges to retain his seat, despite a demonstration that he did not have support from the majority of voters. The will of the people of Clawson was ignored. Public interest was violated.
• To restore the will of the people and the public interest, George Georges should immediately resign from his seat on Clawson City Council.

On November 3, 2021, the outgoing Mayor of Clawson (Reese Scripture), in the last minutes of her very last regular Council meeting, asked a member of Council (George Georges) to resign immediately. Georges was not elected to his seat on Council, but had been appointed to the Council by the rest of Council in July 2021 when a seat opened up due to a resignation. Georges ran for Council on the November 2, 2021 ballot. Georges came in fourth place, when only the top two vote getters won. He was going to be required to step down when the new Council was sworn in on November 8, creating a new vacancy that the newly elected Council and Mayor would need to fill. Instead, by resigning during the meeting on November 3, a vacancy was created immediately. Mayor Reese Scripture then made a motion to immediately appoint Georges to the seat that he had just vacated. This motion was supported by Councilmember Glenn Shepard and passed in a 3-1 vote. This places Georges in a seat on Council until the next regular municipal election. In order to restore public trust in the body of Clawson's City Council, we call upon George Georges to resign immediately and allow a new appointment to that seat.
