Athens, GA has been known for it's vibrant downtown and thriving music community.  In the past 10-15 years, the development of large scale student housing directly downtown has changed the skyline, landscape, and the community.  Charm, community, trees, local businesses and people have been pushed out for more and more high density, high cost housing for students that is constantly promised as "affordable housing".  

This is not what the citizens of Athens want.  This is not what brings visitors.  This is not what makes our community.  Athens-Clarke County Commissioners and Planning need to better address this and stop the new student housing project on W. Broad and Reese that is being proposed as "affordable housing".  We all know this is not the case.  Planning should be focused on citizens, work with UGA to push them to create housing, and being sustainable (environmentally and for the community).

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners and Mayor: stop building high-rise student complexes in downtown.
