LIFT THE HOODS: Classify White Supremacist Groups as Domestic Terrorist Organizations

The 2001 USA Patriot Act defines domestic terrorism as "activities that (A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the U.S. or of any state; (B) appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S." (source)
“Since 9/11, white supremacists and other far-right extremists have been responsible for almost three times as many attacks on U.S. soil as Islamic terrorists, the government reported. From 2009 through 2018, the far right has been responsible for 73% of domestic extremist-related fatalities, according to a 2019 study by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).” (https://time.com/5647304/white-nationalist-terrorism-united-states/
We the undersigned request a new legal requirement to register, classify, and subsequently surveil white supremacist organizations as domestic terrorist organizations. By classifying these groups for what they are--as intimidating to the American population and dangerous to human life--the institutions responsible for protecting citizens against such groups, namely the FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center, will have the necessary information and resources to prevent further destruction carried out by these violent terrorist groups.
We suggest the necessity for all white supremacist organization members, leaders and affiliates, to disclose their membership within a database that would be available to community members and employers alike. The goal is to prevent white supremacists from assuming positions of power, from infiltrating law enforcement institutions, and from continuing to operate lethally under the radar. The FBI and similar bureaus which were created solely to protect civilians in the U.S. have a responsibility to look within our borders, and keep us safe from those among us who have corrupt motives.
While it is currently not illegal to be an active participant in white supremacist groups and hate groups alike, it is criminal to act upon the foundational ideologies of these groups. We as a people have seen the actions of powerful white supremacist groups over and over again, throughout time.
In 2015, Dylann Roof violently killed 9 church-goers in Charleston, SC in the name of white supremacy and far-right extremism.
In 2018, James Fields drove his car into a crowd of peaceful anti-protesters at a white nationalist rally, running over and killing Heather Heyerat.
In 2019, Patrick Crusius murdered 23 Walmart shoppers as an act of white supremacy, as outlined in his Hispanophobic manifesto.
In 2020, a group of white supremacists were arrested by FBI law enforcement after planning to cause mass destruction, in the form of derailing trains, poisoning water supplies, and killing people.
As law enforcement continues to deny the criminality of white supremacist organizations until violence is planned and carried out, Americans are denied their unalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, as guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence. The existence of the Ku Klux Klan, the Loyal White Knights, and their counterparts is inherently criminal, racist, and a complete violation of human rights.
Stop allowing white supremacy to act in secrecy. #LiftTheHoods
