Care in the Curriculum - creating a foundation of essential well-being skills.

Suicide in young men is on the increase and our beautiful daughters are self-harming!!! I am passionate about mental well-being and education and it pains me to see more of our children and young adults not coping with life.
While working in schools/clubs I have seen children as young as 4 with anxiety and low-confidence. It's because of this I believe that well-being skills could and should be taught in the curriculum. We teach our children that to have healthy bodies we need to feed them healthy food and exercise so we should also teach them that to develop healthy minds we need to feed them healthy thoughts and exercise them in fun, productive and creative ways.
For over 20 years I suffered with bouts of chronic anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts and I have to say that I am not ashamed of my journey. It is because of my experience that I am so passionate about giving our youngsters a better start in life. I believe well-being skills can be incoporated into the school curriculum developing self-awareness and creating a strong emotional foundation leading to more resilient and happy young adults.
Some high schools offer advice on stress etc especially near exam time but how much better would it be for our youngsters to have already learned and be using skills that reduce stress and empower them to do the best they can?
Not only could this practice benefit our youngsters but workforces could benefit with fewer absences due to stress and burn out.
Please help me get things moving for a brighter future for our children. Let's give them the tools to take on life and win!!!!
