Clare County Council : Re-instate the iconic Che Guevara Mural !

The iconic mural featuring the face of Argentine Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara has been removed by Clare Co.Council and Kilkee local authority because it supposedly upset American tourists!
This iconic 20ft mural showing the world famous revolutionary has rock solid links to Co.Clare and to Ireland.
Renowned Irish artist Jim Fitzpatrick created the original iconic piece after meeting the revolutionary who was briefly exploring Kilkee and the homeland of his Irish ancestors - the full family name was Guevara-Lynch - during a stopover in Co.Clare on a flight to Moscow in 1961.
It has been reported that the Americans left town after seeing the mural. The face of Guevara, had adorned the same spot for the previous two 'Che do Bheatha' - which is a festival of Latin-American culture.
What next you may ask? Do we bulldoze New Grange because there's no central heating in it for the tourists? Do we ban James Joyce's books because he offended the Catholic church in Rome? Do we just surrender of culture to the whims of the few?
But Clare County Council staff removed the 20ft high mural yesterday despite agreement at a Town Council meeting on Monday that it should stay until the festival was over, but we say it is a worthy piece and should be forever re-instated!
This is the third year of the festival, which was established in 2011 to mark the 50th anniversary of the visit to the area by Che Guevara.
Given the artworks links to Irish culture having the mural of it removed due to the annoyance of a few American tourists is a ridiculous action and is a crime against our rich artistic heritage.
We are calling on Clare Co.Council to facilitate the reinstatement the mural immediately.
