South Auckland is growing fast. Many of us have lived here all our lives and are now being marginalised by over-development. Thousands of dwellings have been built (Pokeno, Papakura, Takanini, Karaka), with more planned in new developments across Paerata Rise, Takanini, Takanini (McLennan), Takanini (Addison), Drury South, Manurewa (old golf club), Papakura (old golf club) to name some. The roads are already grid-locked. Council has plans to upgrade roading but it is planned far too late and is insufficient for population numbers. Public transport routes are also limited, with insufficient parking on site.
The people of South Auckland deserve reliable and timely access to places of employment, education and leisure activities, not hours of queueing, crawling and parking on arterial routes. We deserve this without penalty such as toll roads. In comparison to other areas of Auckland (North, East) we are behind in roading.
This petition calls on council/government to review for adequacy, and expedite all infrastructure projects and put all building permits on hold (if breaking of ground has not occurred on an individual dwelling), until infrastructure is in place. It is time for town PLANNING and quick ACTION.
