Reject the proposed self-storage facility at 2803 W. Broadway in Eagle Rock

Our community is not pleased that a self-storage facility is planned on the site of a beautiful former neighborhood restaurant, Ernie Jr's. This would require demolishing the beautiful mid-century inspired architectural taco house (which adds architectural interest to the street), ripping out 3 trees and building a block-shaped storage facility with over 85k square feet that will be an eye sore. This is the gateway to Eagle Rock. The community and our leaders need to explore other uses for that property rather than give this project Expedited Processing by the City Planning Department. There is a rumor that an owner of the restaurant refuses to sell to any other restaurants and, if true, that is a tragedy. This area of Eagle Rock needs more life, warmth and character. Included in under a quarter mile radius of this site are several economy motels, another self-storage facility and many homeless encampments. Those of us who live here want to see our neighborhood improving for residents and we don't need or want storage. What will help clean up that area is foot traffic or population density. Self storage is just going to add to the vacant and less secure dynamic in this area. This is terrible for Eagle Rock. We residents are disappointed to learn of these plans and shocked by the expedited processing. This project has slipped under the radar and will kill any signs of a healthy community on the streets in this area.
