Suggested amendments to the current wording found in CITY OF ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA CODE OF ORDINANCES, TITLE IX, GENERAL REGULATIONS, CHAPTER 93: ANIMALS
Current Code of Ordinances for the City of Zephyrhills exclude "swine" as being a domesticated animal that is allowable within city limits. Due to the recent up-rise in number of pet mini pig owners we ask that this code be amended as this ordinance has had and will continue to have negative outcomes for both people & their pet pigs. Many pigs are surrendered to shelters, given to animal rescues or abandoned due to zoning laws. Many pig owners have left their homes due to these codes and sought out homes in other cities or municipalities that allow for these types of pets in order to keep their "family" together. Mini pigs are pets just like our dogs and our cats and they deserve to be treated as so.
Current code wording: j. "Domestic" shall mean those animals trained to live with and be of use to man; tame and shall include domesticated dogs, cats, birds, fish, rodents, rabbits and alike; but shall not include cattle, horses, swine, sheep, goats or other grazing animals , turkeys, poultry, foul, ostriches and lamas or other animals normally raised for food.
Requested Amendment Suggestions: Remove the word swine from the "not included" section-OR-add a weight limit to the swine, such as "swine weighing over 250 pounds"-OR-add to the "shall include" section "Swine weighing under 250 pounds"
