The City of Winnipeg is wanting to relocate the recycling depot from Garden City Shopping Centre to the Garden City Community Centre. This plan takes away a HUGE amount parking and poses a hazard to the children and users of our community centre. This new location also affects property values negatively, causes a ton of neighbourhood litter and is an eyesore.
The City admits that the current depot being closed has illegal dumping every day, including mattresses, broken glass, hazardous chemicals, and dangerous piles of wood and nails. The residents of Garden City, and especially the children using the fields, should not have to walk through a hazardous dumping ground to play baseball or soccer.
The Garden City Residents' Association is against this plan and we need your help to keep our community centre and neighbourhood SAFE and CLEAN. The City just opened the new $5 million 4R Depot nearby which accepts everything for FREE and is a great replacement.
We have started this petition to voice our objection to this proposed location and we will be delivering it to our Councillor Devi Sharma and Mayor Brian Bowman.
