Clare McAlaney started this petition to City of Wanneroo

There is a reserve that sits between ocean and road. It is a tranquil place, where many walk or take their dogs. It is a buffer, it is solitude. It is part of Country, our last true connection to this land.

In reading the Reconciliation Action Plan of the City of Wanneroo, they acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation; the Custodians of the lands on which the City is located and where we conduct our business.

BUT they are about to destroy a significant part of it, despite the community telling them they do NOT want this to happen.

This Country could be lost forever. How much more do our First Nations People have to endure? While this may not be a place they visit today, as it is built up, as part of reconciliation, it is where WE, white people, CAN, connect and reflect. But City wants to take that away from us.

This could impact you and is part of extending the footprint of the proposed Quinns Rocks Caravan Park whilst destroying a Noongar walking trail without being fully transparent and informing YOU this is the case. If you want the bushland nature reserve to remain YOU need to OBJECT this week or this will sneak through under the radar.

WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR LOCAL BUSH FOREVER and the land of Peoples we may, one day, be privileged to call our ForePeople.

You can take action aside from this petition, but we need urgent community and media response. Signing here, will help this happen. The City currently do NOT accept digital petitions, so here is how you can also object to this destruction of Country.

What they have invited you to do

The City of Wanneroo invites YOU to comment on a proposal to permanently close a portion of an un-made and un-named road reserve, within the middle of Lot 211 (2) Quinns Road, Mindarie, as shown on the accompanying plan and the subsequent amalgamation of that land into the adjoining Lot (the proposed caravan park). This is currently one of three Whadjuck walking trails.

The city's Reconciliation Action Plan working group for the last two years and the City of Wanneroo has promoted Aboriginal Heritage. QUINNS BEACH BUSHLAND RESERVE IS one of the areas with a walking trail through signage that provides education on the Noongar six seasons and their significance to Noongar culture. This area is part of the Whadjuck Trail Network.

NOT ONLY IS THE PROPOSAL DECEPTIVE as it does not make it clear it is part of the redevelop plan it certainly has NOT been advised in any city notices on any documentation available that it will also destroy one of only three Noongar Six Seasons Walking Trails within the City of Wanneroo.

Comments CLOSE on 8 October 2021 and need to be emailed to enquiries@wanneroo.wa.gov.au or mailed to the Chief Executive Officer, City of Wanneroo, Locked Bag 1, WANNEROO

Please, do that, but also, sign this if you can't do that and if you can do that.

Media attention, First People action, will change this.

Thank you. Let's stop further destruction of our Country.
