Adrienne Sweat started this petition to City of Vancouver

Paton Street is named after a J.A. Paton, a 1920s conservative MLA, former owner of the Vancouver Courier, and past mayor or Point Grey, who was also a ferocious advocate for all manner of racist agendas, even vocally deriding Chinese Canadians.

"Paton took his xenophobia beyond just rhetoric and policy; in 1925, while serving as both mayor of Point Grey, and chairman of its police commission, he helped orchestrate the kidnapping—using municipal funds and police resources—of a Chinese houseboy named Wong Foon Sing, who was kept chained in the attic of a Shaughnessy mansion for more than six weeks, and beaten to get him to confess to a murder he didn’t commit." I propose that the current street bearing Paton's racist legacy be renamed Wong Foon Sing Street, to honour the victim instead of the perpetrator.
