Recently City of Tshwane workers affiliated to the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) downed tools two weeks ago, demanding bench-marking payments. Ongoing negotiations have led to people of Mamelodi and surrounding areas going out to block roads and therefore frustrating other resident who need to access roads and infrastructure.

Although destroying our area will not bring back electricity to affected areas or make it possible for rubbish to be collected on time, we urge the COT Administration to address the people and finish negotiations with Samwu for the sake of the people. Mamelodi will be worse of if this kind of behavior continues. Our people are suffering due to lack of service delivery.

People will end up taking the law into their own hands and lives and livelihoods will be affected negatively. The damage will be irreversible. We urge the City of Tshwane to at least engage the residents, call for calm, deploy law enforcement and use skeleton stuff to fix major problems. If this does not happen, the city will be crippled. By signing this petition we are showing solidarity as the people of Mamelodi and asking the COT to meet us halfway. We are tired and growing impatient by the day!!! Aluta
