Provide universal access at city beaches
This petition had 3 supporters
Though the landmark Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) legislation mandates access for all, most beaches in Toronto are still not fully or even partially accessible. Despite City Council's approval of a multi-year implementation strategy in 2005 to "make City facilities accessible to persons with disabilities" our beaches are still effectively closed off for anyone with mobility issues. We are initiating a campaign to get the City of Toronto to abide by the AODA's guidelines and implement accessible pathways down to the waterfront so that every single person, including those in the disability community, can enjoy the full beach experience without any barriers.
