spending 36 million dollars on fire works is way to much and should go to refuges in refuge camps or the farmers in Australia.

Every day we are lucky to be living in Australia and while the New Year fireworks are amazing, they show we're living a life of excess, like many other developed countries, and should instead be assisting communities in less fortunate countries. I think cutting each firework display by a minute is too lenient - As an Australian I think we're generous enough to give it a miss for one year. Doing so would save millions of lives by enabling us to put the money towards building homes, hospitals, schools and providing water and food for millions of people so the next generations of individuals in developing countries are on a more equal footing.

it is a disgrace to blow that sort of money celebrating what is at the end of the day - just another day. We complain about budget cuts in so many other areas - why isn't there an up roar about this waste!.

I'm in understanding of this cause as I am, as is my family, in financial distraught, and as a person of youth trying to find a job with little experience and having to rely on what little money I get currently to get by, I believe this is a worthy idea and should be signed not only for the sake of those less fortunate than myself, but for the sake of those around the world and this country as we as a country need to stop and think for one second how those who are affected most by poverty and the recession we are spiralling into are feeling in that short minute as they watch millions of dollars go up into flames.
