We demand food after midnight in Newtown!!!

I'm bloody hungry right now but I can't get a kebab in Newtown. Since late 2015, the City of Sydney Council "cracked down" on late night food vendors on King St.

Due to Newtown's lively night activities there is a high demand for food after midnight. This has long been provided by fast food vendors like Istanbul on King and, more recently, Mr. Yeeros. Both Istanbul and Yeeros regularly served until 4am on Friday and Saturday nights, satisfying our need for kebabs.

Both vendors have now been forced to shut before midnight under medieval development applications—with one dating from fifty years ago!

According to the SMH, Vice-president of the Australian Medical Association Stephen Parnis said doctors would generally encourage people to have food at the time they consume alcohol, rather than after. If Istanbul and Yeeros can't serve food at 1am, when bar-goers are still drinking, then how can anyone eat while they drink?!

Additionally, local late-night workers from RPA, hospitality outlets, and convenience stores often patron Istanbul and Yeeros for a post-work, late-night feed. It is not only for drinkers but for workers that we demand food after midnight on King St!

We must fight back against this imposition on our nightly lives!
