Petition for compensation due to extension of full closure of Marshall Rd

It is with great disappointment that the Marshall Road closure is to continue after the initial requested closure duration of 16 weeks. The CBP Contractor is now requesting to extend the closure until 18-Nov-2018, which is an additional 13 weeks. They claim that the reason is “because of record rainfall events throughout the month of August”, which we feel is an excuse for their incompetence in managing the works.
Previously, the council had approved the full road closure based on CBP Contractor’s statements during the Agenda Forum on 04-April-2018:
• As the work is to be carried out in winter, as such the requested duration was for 16 weeks with confidence that the works would be finished before the requested closure duration.
• The full road closure would enable the works to be completed in a shorter period of time.
However, CBP are now asking for an extension of 13 weeks which is almost double the initial requested duration. This is a clear case of mis-management of its work, using the weather as an excuse for it’s poor performance.
Our café business has suffered tremendously since the start of the full road closures in 01-May-2018. Our sales figures for May to August 2018 have dropped significantly by 23% compared with the same period last year. Prior to roadwork closures, our family business was growing with a healthy profit; we are now trading at a loss. We have asked for financial assistance from Main Road/CBP Contractor without any success.
We are aware that the road cannot be reopened if it is unsafe to reopen for traffic. However, our business should not be penalised for CBP Contractor’s mis-management of its works. Our finances are limited, and the business cannot afford to continue operating at a loss. Therefore, we urge you to help us claim the compensation with CBP Contractor/Main Road, by signing the petition below.
