Decision Maker Response

Dave Lane’s response

Dave Lane
City of St. John's

Aug 29, 2018 — Hello everyone!

I'm Councillor Dave Lane, one of the decision makers to whom this petition has been addressed, and I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you for participating in this discussion and Justin for starting the petition.

I'm very supportive of a trail system that is both safe and friendly for users of all kinds. I'm getting more and more stories of individuals approaching cyclists in an aggressive way on our trails, and I find that very disturbing. That is not the spirit in which we should be discussing this issue.

With that in mind, I'm excited to have finally kicked off a review of the St. John's Bike Master Plan, and we will be officially starting the engagement process at our upcoming BIKE FEST!

Bike Fest happens on Water Street from 10am - 2pm on Sunday, September 16, and I encourage you ALL to come down to celebrate and learn more about cycling in the city. There will be so much to see and do there, with activities for people of all ages.

Keep an eye on bikestjohns.ca and engagestjohns.ca to stay on top of these and other bike-related policy initiatives. There are mailing lists on both, so please sign up!

Thanks again for being passionate about this issue and I'll see you on September 16!

Dave

p.s. There's a cool bike rack competition ongoing. Check it out!
