Lake Tahoe has some of the cleanest and tastiest drinking water in America. There's no need to drink bottled water when it's healthier out of the tap. By banning plastic water bottles we can reduce waste, litter, and help protect the environment. 

 Plastic water bottles are made up of Polyethylene terephthalate and when littered, it breaks down into toxic pieces. The toxic microplastics will eventually end up in the lake. After millions of gallons of oil are used to produce and ship plastic bottles, 75% of them end up in waterways and the landfill. Only 25% of plastic is actually recycled. Most of the water that is bottled up is just tap water from places down the hill that doesn't have the cleanest and tastiest water. 

The City of South Lake Tahoe should ban the use of plastic water bottles and help build more water refilling stations to help educate visitors on the beauty of Tahoe Tap. Drink Tahoe Tap!
