Stop the Closure of 9th Street at Lorne Ave YXE

On July 23rd the City of Saskatoon is meeting to discuss the temporary and experimental closure of the westbound right turn at the intersection of 9th Street and Lorne Ave. with intention of closing it permanently after the trial period.
Data collections and major decisions such as road closures should not be undertaken during traffic disruptions caused by major infrastructure projects, in this case, the Victoria Ave Closure and Traffic Bridge Construction.
The closure of one road only shifts traffic to the surrounding streets. It is a tremendous waste of tax payer dollars to "temporarily" or "experimentally" close streets, as we have seen with the recent closing and reopening of Glasgow Street and now Council addressing the issue of 9th Street closure for a second time. This is not the highest and best use of our hard earned tax dollars.
The undersigned, being residents of Saskatoon believe the following with respect to traffic flows and road closures of streets in existing neighborhoods:
1. Road closures cannot be acted upon simply as a result of a neighborhood meeting or adhoc surveys, and should be put to a plebiscite. The neighborhood meeting is too casual. Attendance is typically not taken and votes are not recorded.
2. Roads are the property of ALL tax payers in the city and to allow residents to close roads for their own self-satisfaction goes against the basic principles of shared use and expense.
3. The character and traffic flows of older neighborhoods were designed using the current best knowledge of the time. To alter that planning by closing some streets or access to those streets puts onus on other streets in the neighborhoods, usually with very negative results.
