Implement better pedestrian safety for students at the N. Bellingham and Albion crosswalk

As a DVHS student, I have observed rash driving at the intersection of N. Bellingham and Albion Rd crosswalk for over 2 years. The unregulated crosswalk poses a threat to student's safety during school hours. Countless times I have seen drivers who were unable to notice students at the crossing or chose not to yield to a pedestrian, as they were in a hurry. When I emailed the City of San Ramon in December of 2015, they replied that they were aware of this uncontrolled crosswalk and were thinking of removing it altogether. However, as this intersection is used by many pedestrians everyday, it was not removed. I repeatedly noticed the hazards of this crosswalk, but no action was taken. A year later, this crosswalk is still unregulated and lacks the safety it needs. On the 15th of February 2017, a student was involved in a hit and run while crossing the road. I strongly urge the city of San Ramon to take appropriate action to avoid further incidents at this crosswalk.
The following are viable solutions to address the problem:
- Install In-Roadway Warning Lights or IRWLs
- Use crossing guards both before and after school
- Assign a traffic police officer to regulate speeding cars before and after school
I request all the residents of San Ramon, to support my petition by signing it at the earliest.
