Urge the City of San Diego to establish a year-round homeless shelter. It is time.

The City of San Diego has passed up numerous opportunities to establish a permanent year-round shelter. The general Downtown area has always been ideal due to it being a public transportation hub, as well as the many community resource organizations located therein. However, many other special interests have prevented this from happening.
As the current Hepatitis A health crisis continues it is all-the-more imperative for the City to act now, and for us, the residents, to abandon our collective complacence. The City has several real estate assets to utilize in establishing a permanent shelter. An ideal location would be the former Chargers practice field and office on 4020 Murphy Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92123. It is located in an area away from residential buildings, tourist attractions, and any other significant points of interest/business. This makes the location perfect, as compared to the many other spots suggested over the years, and should prove to be immune from special interests that might derail such a plan.
I implore you to reach down within yourselves and assert your empathy. Urge the City, the mayor, and your respective local representatives to use this location as a year-round, permanent homeless shelter. Either re-purpose the existing edifice, retrofit, or raze and rebuild to the required needs.
Much more can be said about this issue, from public to environmental health, public safety, business interests, etc. As a concerned citizen, I have attempted to keep this fairly brief to be more compelling. Again, I urge you to sign this electronic petition, and to go one step further and contact your local City Council representative.
