Fix Mawson Lakes Interchange Carparking

Car parking in Mawson Lakes is a huge issue raised with me and is a complex situation that State Government and Council need to tackle together.

Since works started on the new connection project on Elder Smith Rd, about 40 car parks from the Mawson Lakes Interchange have been taken, at the same time the new Romeo Foodlands opened - with hundreds of staff and new customers visiting the new shopping complex in Mawson Lakes. However, Foodland parking is underground, limited and is paid parking. Therefore customers and staff are parking wherever they can: on the street, blocking entrances and exits, even parking on yellow lines risking expensive expiration notices.

Recently people were fined $155 for parking on the yellow line in the Mawson Lakes Interchange car park, and believe that being fined was unfair as they cannot find anywhere else to park, and they need to access their residences, businesses and the interchange.

The car parking in Mawson Lakes is getting worse and as such we need to take action and look at solutions including funding a multi storey car park in Mawson Lakes to ease the pain. The community support is there, now we need collaboration and funding.

Thanks,
Councillor Beau Brug
