"My sister is a beautiful, blessed Black queen,” Cimone Black said without hesitation when asked to describe her sister, Nia Black. “She is a boss.”

Nia " Brooklyn" Black went to Lamplighter Lounge on June 13, 2020 and never returned home, as she was murdered due to gun violence. Lamplighter Lounge has been the epicenter for violence for years. Why are they still open to negatively impact the community? By signing this petition, you are demanding officials (1) Pull the liquor license ASAP (2) Hold the owner accountable for the culture of violence that has been fostered here and (3) Shut the establishment down

Nia Black, 23, was an Aveda alumnus, business owner and valued member of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA). Her business, Brooklyn Black LLC, served as an outlet for beauty industry professionals. Nia was founder and owner of Project Brooklyn where she highlighted the talent of local Twin Cities artists and had a vison to take it Nationwide.

Black, who was a Make-Up Artist (MUA), had clients that flew into the Twin Cities on a monthly basis for MUA services as well as celebrities like Star Jones and Super Bowl performers. She had been a licensed cosmetologist since February of 2018. She taught courses at North Hennepin Community College and was studying business marketing.
