Safer Pedestrian Crosswalks

Safer Pedestrian Crosswalks
Why this petition matters

Hello!
I’m seeking your help in requesting the city of Riverside bring more pedestrian awareness and making our city a safer and more walkable place.
With an already wide variety of businesses within walking distance, the city of Riverside will continue to sprout more businesses and eateries within Downtown. We have a new library, new museum, and apartment complex buildings in the concluding chapters of construction, this will bring in more pedestrians to our streets.
I’ve had multiple encounters with drivers violating city crosswalks/lights, aggressively cutting off pedestrians during their designated time to cross.
Aside from holding drivers accountable, I am proposing the following changes:
- Install more cameras to help hold violating drivers accountable
Equip the downtown area with traffic signs and warning signs to warn drivers they are entering a pedestrian zone
Higher visibility on crosswalks
Although the city has already been actively initiating shared road projects by incorporating bike lanes, we must ensure that in incorporating more inviting, pedestrian friendly commutes, that we are also equipping our fellow city walkers with the safety measures to protect them.
