Holly Munn started this petition to City of Richmond

Richmond is located on a floodplain. Historically we didn't have many trees -- but we didn't have many people or roads or houses either.

Both the creation of high-density housing and climate change -- create a clear need for trees. Not only do they provide shade and reduce energy costs, they also reduce air pollution. At one point we were the longest-living city in Canada --  a community with trees are linked to reduced mortality. The presence of trees and green space promotes well-being and increases mood and life satisfaction.

Yes, trees do a lot for soil stabilization and stormwater runoff. We have great pumping stations, but why are we letting homes cover their lawn with cement when we should let trees do some of the work for us.
