Kaethe De Leon started this petition to City of Provo

We, the residents of Heritage Court and Monaco Court Apartments on South State Street in Provo, UT, request that the City of Provo reconsider the addition of bike lanes along the aforementioned street. We, the residents, have used South State Street for parking for several years as parking in our apartment complexes is limited. We did NOT receive warning, nor did we at any time agree to or vote upon the addition of bike lanes, which prevent us from parking along the street, prior to their addition. Many of us have been issued warnings or parking fines for parking along the street, despite being given no prior information.

We are concerned that, due to limited parking in our complexes' lots and along nearby side streets (such as 400 S) residents of our complexes will be forced to park far away. This is not only an inconvenience, especially during the upcoming winter months, but it can also pose a danger to residents who will now be forced to cross the busy street at night and/or walk long distances in the dark to get home. According to the National Sex Offender Registry, there are no fewer than twenty-nine registered sex offenders living within one mile of our complexes. In addition, we have reported homeless people trespassing onto our properties on several occasions. We are concerned that those of us coming home from school or work after dark will be at a higher risk of being targeted by criminals if we are forced to walk long distances in the dark. We are also concerned for the safety of our visitors, who cannot park in our complexes' lots.

It is extremely upsetting to us that, despite it greatly affecting the residents of our street, we were not considered, involved in, or even warned about this decision to further limit our already limited parking before it was carried out. We implore the City of Provo to please reconsider this decision or meet with us to come up with a compromise.
