BREAKING NEWS: Council has already approved demolition in 'hidden' process
Nov 28, 2016 — Hello friends of the Greyhound Hotel,
It has been brought to my attention that a decision to demolish 1 Brighton Road/The Greyhound Hotel was made back in May this year.
I have made contact with Council today to seek confirmation of this decision and to access the documentation for its process and Council approval. They have confirmed this decision with the following advice: "The Section 29A process is pursuant to the Building Act 1993. Unlike most Planning processes, the Section 29A process is not public and unavailable to access via freedom of information"
It is important to note that the Greyhound does not have heritage overlay which is the Council's rationale for the 29A process. However, the concern is with Council's 'laziness' not to proactively recognise that heritage overlays are one thing - value to streetscape, neighbourhood identity and history is vital to community.
This petition will be taken to Council on Tuesday 6 December as a clear message that regardless of its limited obligations for process - the community did not have a say in the decision of which it should have proactively sought. We will look at necessary action to prevent demolition. Thank you for your support.
