Save the Alberni Aquarium from Closure
The Alberni Aquarium Needs Your Support! The Aquarium is at high risk of shutting down by the end of March 2020, and we need your help to keep it afloat until the summer. Along with this go fund me we are raising via in-person donations, event nights, and more. The Alberni Aquarium has become an important pillar in the community. It is a smaller sized non-profit but has proven to have a very strong educational outreach program.
The Alberni Aquarium's main priority is environmental education and awareness. We were very proud to have hosted over 60 school groups in 2019. The Aquarium participates in stewardship projects such as habitat restoration and enhancement projects throughout the community. It has helped with many projects such as: tree planting at the Estuary, Salmon Enhancement Net-pen Projects, and even partnered up with Ducks Unlimited for a birdhouse building project for species at risk.
The Alberni Aquarium is committed to providing job training to local youth from the valley including local indigenous communities. The Aquarium is partially run by numerous volunteers of all ages. The Alberni Aquarium offers a one of a kind Junior Scientists Program that encourages youth to share their science experiments promoting science education and communication skills. It is passionate about learning for all ages and hosts a weekly story and craft time for preschool families.
The Aquarium has quickly become an ambassador for the community and have hosted visitors from all over the world. Unfortunately, as they are a non-profit organization, their fundraising efforts were just not enough to sustain the Alberni Aquarium into 2020.
