30 million dollars to be spent on “Progress in Pompano! Project”

Atlantic Boulevard/Dixie Highway Streetscape Project IGNORES homeless problem to redesign roads and add trees!

Not one dime allocated to help our city’s poor homeless people!!!

On September 08th, 2021 the City of Pompano Beach began their transformative new road project that will “realign” Atlantic and Dixie, “creating a signature entrance to the heart of the City”.  They want it to be a  pleasant, walkable area 2 miles from our beautiful beach. So, Pompano Beach took away 2 entire lanes traveling east on Atlantic towards 95 in order to “smooth traffic and enhance pedestrian safety while creating a modern, warm and welcoming streetscape”! It has become pure chaos! The bottle-neck grid locked traffic full of confused and angry residents now have to deal with longer commutes, carbon emissions and the risk of congestion related traffic accidents. There is also a danger to emergency medical service vehicles and their patients, wasted tax dollars and overall declining morale of the people that live in the city!

Their “design” claims to slow down traffic and incentivize walking, rather than allowing drivers to speed through yet most people are trying to get to work. I-95 is not easily accessible due to traffic jams caused by this project. What were they thinking?? A very small amount of people in the US can walk to work. Most people need to drive!

The Progress in Pompano project was made possible after a successful collaboration with the Florida Department of Transportation! In fact, FDOT transferred almost $5 million in funding to the City as this money had already been designated for the resurfacing of Dixie Highway. The City will also receive approximately $25 million from the Broward County Penny for Transportation Surtax fund which is designated for transportation.

THIRTY MILLION!!!

Pompano Beach also has a serious problem with homeless people, drug addicts, and prostitutes loitering around and approaching vehicles… but not one dime is being spent on helping them!!!! Let that sink in…NONE of the 30 MILLION is allocated for helping homeless and needy Americans in Pompano Beach!!

So, besides the cluster luck of traffic, exactly how do they plan on spending 30 million dollars? According to the city of Pompano Beach website it will be spent as follows: A pedestrian and bike promenade with seating areas along both sides of Atlantic Boulevard, curbside lawns with street trees; The medians widened, landscaped and extended. A path along the West side of Dixie Highway separated from the road by more landscaping and  medians will be extended to align with newly defined crosswalks.

Don’t take my word for it! Check out the city of Pompano Beach website: www.pompanobeachfl.gov and view the rendering. You can also read more about this sugar-coated project on their blog here:
