With the northern suburbs clearly on the rise in terms of housing affordability, and exponential growth, there needs to be more forethought about growing traffic and congestion for the future.

Curtis road is a major arterial thoroughfare for many people directly linking to the Northern expressway, and yet it is only single lanes in both directions, as a result there is now a massive bottleneck of traffic on a daily basis on this road. The suburbs of Munno Para / Smithfield and surrounding areas are no longer just the little suburban dwellings of the past, they're now heavily built up and substantially growing areas of the future.

Curtis road should be made dual lanes in both directions to ease the congestion, if not now, but for the future, the northern suburbs are only going to grow, so why not beat the trend and mistakes of other corners of Adelaide and set a better, smarter precedent, make the right infrastructure before it's needed?

With the Northern expressway linking metropolitan suburbs with the northern suburbs and in turn making the northern suburbs a viable alternative for living, business and other projects, more needs to be done now to make it less congested for the future, it would make the northern suburbs an even greater avenue to invest and live. Why not beat the trend of fixing roads later by making them right in the first place?

Currently there is ample room for a cycle / walking lane on the footpath, as well as trees, landscaping and a duplicate cycle lane on the road, which results in division between motorists and cyclists, why not solve two problems and make Curtis road a dual lane thoroughfare with cycle lanes as well? I dare say there would even still be enough room to have a dedicated separate cycling / walking lane on the side of the road if the centre island is reduced in size.

This project whilst it might be an inconvenience to a lot of people, it no doubt will result in a huge visionary benefit for future residents and people looking to move to the northern suburbs, it can only be a great move for all.
