Make Oakland Safe started this petition to City of Pittsburgh and

I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2011. Since my time as a student, I've heard news stories of bus accidents on Pitt's Oakland campus. Most of the time, I simply accepted these stories as the "way things are". But things changed for me when I heard about a recent tragedy on Oakland's campus, the death of a friend. My heart shattered when I heard about her passing. And I understand that the grief and pain of everyone who were close to her would leave a crater the size of the entire campus.

Her passing "follows more than three dozen pedestrian accidents in that area in recent years, 10 of them involving Port Authority buses, according to a review of accidents statistics from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Port Authority." - Post-Gazzete

The goal of this petition is to give us the leverage we need to force the City of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh to outfit PAT buses, at least the ones which go through Oakland, with modern Pedestrian-Avoidance technology like the ones from SEON and/or DC Fusion. If Port Authority does not have the budget for these improvements, for whatever reason, then its not unreasonable to ask the University of Pittsburgh to help pay for these improvements. Pitt's endowment is $4.3 billion.
