With the COVID-19 pandemic and stay at home orders, victims of domestic violence are in danger, and their access to safety and services has been disproportionately impacted. On April 23, Uber pledged to support domestic violence survivors during COVID-19 by partnering with domestic violence organizations and local governments in 35 cities to provide free rides to shelters and safe spaces, as well as free meals.

So far, New York, Chicago, and New Orleans are among the cities that have established partnerships with Uber to expand life-sustaining services for people experiencing domestic violence during COVID-19. I’d like to urge Philadelphia, in collaboration with local and state organizations to join the list of US cities partnering with Uber to provide this much needed service.

As a city and as a nation, we are really not “in this together.” This pandemic has further isolated some of our most vulnerable and with the ongoing fluidity of the situation, we can’t bet on lockdowns being lifted anytime soon. Please stand up and act today by signing this petition to do your part in securing access to services to ensure the physical and emotional safety of those experiencing domestic violence in their homes.
