Rename Perth Station bridge to Shirley Mort Overpass to honour her dedication
Shirley Mort passed away on Saturday 6 May 2017.
Over the past 26 years, Shirley Mort has raised over $1.7 million for The Salvation Army in Western Australia. Hundreds of thousands of people visiting Perth City on any given Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays would likely remember the petite and dedicated collector, standing on the Wellington Street Pedestrian Overpass, always ready to flash her trademark smile.
Rain, hail or shine . . . if she ever missed a day in the 26 years she collected funds for the Salvation Army, it was an extremely rare event.
Six days a week before the sun would even consider rising, Shirley would be out and about preparing her morning food run to feed the homeless populations of Perth at Wellington Square and the Supreme Court Gardens.
It's time the community of Perth gives back, remembering her with a lasting tribute by renaming the bridge from Forrest Chase near Myers to the Perth Train Station with the "Shirley Mort Overpass" (or bridge or walkway).
Please SIGN and SHARE this petition for the City of Perth to rename this bridge in her honour.
(This campaign is not the sole idea of the author but has been created to represent the hundreds, if not thousands of people positively moved by Shirley's inspirational achievements, who took to social media following Shirley's passing away, to express their strong interest in renaming the Wellington Street Pedestrian Overpass in honour of Shirley Mort.)
