Kim Grant started this petition to City of Palo Alto

Kim Grant Tennis Academy, a Palo Alto business for 13 years, serves a large portion of the tennis community of Palo Alto and we are proud to see the positive impact this sport has on children, adults and families.

The purpose of this petition to bring about change around the permitted access to park and school tennis courts, in order for Kim Grant Tennis Academy to serve and meet the needs of the tennis community.

IMPORTANT FACTS:

- There is an urgent need for courts to provide tennis lessons to the community.

- Children and adults want to improve and need more courts to receive instruction.

- We need to provide quality teaching to our community but there are no courts or lit courts made available to rent for lessons.

- Kim Grant Tennis serves a large portion of the Palo Alto tennis community.

- The schools and the City would benefit from the rental income paid for tennis court access.

- Court permit access will provide much needed jobs for coaches.

The current rules of the City of Palo Alto are:

"TENNIS COURT USAGE

- Tennis courts are available for reservation for USTA tournament/match use only.
- Only 50% of the available courts at any location can be reserved at the same time and date. All other courts must remain open to the general public.
- Tennis courts are not available for reservation by individuals for private use, including private lessons and individual play. No person shall provide or offer tennis lessons for compensation on City-owned tennis courts except as part of and approved as a City-sponsored program."

Unfortunately, this no lessons rule applies to public schools and parks so there are no options to rent or reserve any courts. There is a large community that needs to be served and we are unable to do so.
